Dare training (Domestic Abuse Routine Enquiry)

Course details

Aim: DARE is aimed at Social Care, Police, Health and a range of frontline professionals and services working with families experiencing domestic abuse. Delegates will gain practical skills in how to apply the DARE toolkit as a First Response model in their service delivery. DARE Core modules include, how to identify domestic abuse perpetrators. How to explore risks & context associated with domestic abuse perpetrators. Ways to engage domestic abuse perpetrators and guide them towards specialist services.

Learning objectives

By the end of the session participants will be able to:

  • recognise the indicators, patterns and presentations of domestic abuse—including those that may be subtle, nonphysical or disguised by victim blaming narratives
  • apply safe and sensitive routine enquiry techniques to initiate conversations about domestic abuse in a way that supports disclosure and maintains professional curiosity
  • explore risks and contextual factors associated with perpetrators' behaviours, including how coercion, control and minimisation may appear in practice
  • engage individuals using harmful behaviours through effective conversational and motivational approaches
