Cumbria Waste brings new life to St. Thomas' Churchyard through social value commitment

As part of their ongoing Social Value commitments to Gateshead council, Cumbria Waste has made a meaningful impact in the local community by responding to a request for support posted on Gateshead Exchange.

St Thomas's Church had reached out to Gateshead Exchange, seeking help from organisations to help tidy their churchyard. Cumbria Waste stepped forward, volunteering their time and effort to trim trees and bushes, transforming the space into a more open and welcoming environment.

Paul Killick, Area Sales Manager, expressed his delight at participating in a recent social value initiative, saying:

I was absolutely delighted to be able to help, alongside my colleague Brain Williams. It was a lovely day where we had the opportunity to give something back to the community - something that's always close to our hearts here at Cumbria Waste.

The event was a great example of how Cumbria Waste continues to champion community engagement and social responsibility. Their contribution demonstrated the power of social value in action. Enhancing the appearance of the grounds, on the west border of the church building, uncovering long-hidden plants and breathing new life into the area.

Ann Partington from St. Thomas' Church expressed heartfelt gratitude for the support saying:

A huge thank you to Cumbria Waste for all the work you did in the churchyard at St. Thomas'. It has opened up that area a lot and revealed a lot of plants we had forgotten were there!

This collaboration highlights the power of Gateshead Exchange in connecting community needs with organisations ready to make a difference. Cumbria Waste's response is a shining example of how businesses can positively influence communities through thoughtful and hands-on engagement. Cumbria Waste's efforts have not only improved the churchyard's environment but also strengthened the relationship between local organisations and the wider Gateshead community.
