Spring Festival brings Saltwell Park to life

Spring Festival parade at Saltwell Park

Saltwell Park burst into colour, music and springtime energy with the launch of our very first Spring Festival.

Attracting over 3,000 people, the park was alive with crowds as families, friends and neighbours came together for a free day packed with live performances, creative workshops, roaming characters and bright, buzzing activities. From little ones dancing on the grass to local musicians filling the air with feel good tunes, the festival had its own vibrant energy that truly celebrated the season.

The finale at the Spring Festival at Saltwell Park was a standout moment with a special community parade bringing over everyone together in a joyful swirl of costumes, creativity and community spirit, transforming the park into a moving celebration of spring. With hundreds of people joining in, it was the perfect way to wrap up the very first festival, that not only welcomed the warmer months, but showcased the pride, passion and playfulness at the heart of our communities.

The festival series now moves onto Oliver Henderson Park with another packed programme of free activities including live music and performances from local artists, small rides for younger children, family activities and workshops, character meet and greets, food stalls and more.

Event dates and locations

  • Barmoor Hub - Saturday 11 April, 11am to 4pm
Led by Barmoor Hub and supported by the council, featuring local talent performances, community stalls, and small rides.
  • Oliver Henderson Park - Saturday 16 May, 12noon to 4pm
Including live performances from local artists, interactive character entertainment, spring themed creative workshops, family activities and food stalls.

All events are free to attend - families can just turn up and enjoy a brilliant day out.

Lindsay Murray, Service Director for Economic Development and Regeneration at Gateshead Council said: "Spring is a time of new beginnings, and these free festivals are the perfect way to bring our communities together to welcome the season. Our parks are places where communities connect, create and have fun and these events are a wonderful showcase of that spirit. They also shine a light on Gateshead's rich culture - from our creativity and local talent to the pride that runs through our neighbourhoods. I hope families from across Gateshead will come along, get involved and enjoy a great day out."

The Spring Festivals are being delivered by Gateshead Council, made possible with funding from Kim McGuinness - North East Mayor and the North East Combined Authority.
