Great British Spring Clean returns
We are inviting residents to love where they live and get involved in the Great British Spring Clean campaign later this month.
Following a successful campaign last year, during which over 550 bags of rubbish were collected, huge amounts of fly-tipping were cleared and stories were shared about those working hard to keep our streets clean, we have once again organised a programme of litter picks to bring people together and help them to love where they live.
As well as being able to take part in the litter picks residents will also have the opportunity to come and talk to council staff and ask questions about the work of our environmental teams.

Councillor John McElroy, Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport, said: "Last year was a great opportunity for us to share lots about the dedication of our teams who work hard throughout the year to keep our streets clean. This year we are inviting residents to join us by taking part in litter picks and coming to talk to us to find out more about the work we do to help residents be proud of their local neighbourhood."
"We have invested more in our environmental services over the last three years with additional staff and machinery, as we know how important our local environment is. We look forward to working with residents, volunteer groups, businesses and schools to tackle environmental issues and improve our local communities."
The Great British Spring Clean calls on everyone to do their bit to help their local environment by pledging to collect one bag of litter or more. Whether on your own or with family and friends, litter-picking is an easy and fun way to get active, improve your wellbeing, and take care of the environment on your doorstep.
Keep Britain Tidy reports that last year:
- 95% of participants agreed that they felt they had made a difference to their local area
- 88% of people who took part in the Great British Spring Clean agreed they feel part of a national movement that is taking action to tackle litter
