Grants of up to £30,000 available to improve community spaces in Gateshead

PRIDE IN PLACE COMMUNITY FUNDING

Community and voluntary sector organisations are being encouraged to apply for grants as part of investment awarded to Gateshead through national Pride in Place funding.

The council has received £1.5m from the Pride in Place Impact Fund over two years to enable immediate work to improve places and spaces valued by local communities.

In Gateshead, the funding will focus on three priorities:

  • community spaces
  • public spaces
  • high street and town centre revitalisation

A total £340,000 of the Pride in Place Impact Fund is allocated to the Community Capital Grants Programme. This will provide grants between £5,000 and £30,000 to VCSE organisations across the borough to make improvements to community and public spaces.

These grants aim to support projects that improve or create community spaces and enhance facilities that promote health, wellbeing, and community cohesion. Eligible projects may include existing community-owned or operated buildings, such as upgrading sports facilities or cultural venues.

Councillor Maria Hall, cabinet member for localities, communities and volunteering at Gateshead Council, said: "These grants are a fantastic opportunity for local community and voluntary sector organisations to help invest in the places and spaces that bring our communities together.

"We're proud to empower people out in our communities to deliver projects that support a stronger, better connected and more inclusive borough.

"These community-driven projects will also reflect the priorities for our residents and allow them to help shape the future of our neighbourhoods."

Applications are open now until Sunday 15 February 2026.
