Chase Park, Derwent Walk Country Park, Felling Park and Saltwell Park have all been awarded Green Flag status, recognising the high standards of management, maintenance and visitor experience they provide for visitors throughout the year.

In additional recognition of their historic significance, Saltwell Park and Chase Park have also achieved Green Heritage Site Accreditation, supported by Historic England, in recognition of the excellent management and promotion of their historic features.

The international Green Flag Award is the benchmark for well-managed parks and green spaces, celebrating sites that are welcoming, safe, accessible and environmentally sustainable.

The awards reflect the dedication and hard work of Gateshead Council, alongside the invaluable contribution of volunteers and community groups who help care for and improve these much-loved spaces.

Councillor Robinson, Cabinet Member for Sport and Culture, said: "We are incredibly delighted that four of our parks have once again achieved Green Flag Award status. These awards recognise the commitment of our teams to providing high-quality, welcoming and well-maintained green spaces that everyone can enjoy throughout the year. I would also like to thank the many volunteers, friends groups and community organisations who give their time, energy and passion to support these parks. Their contribution is hugely valued and plays a vital role in helping us maintain these award-winning spaces."

From historic attractions to woodland areas, wildlife to play parks, walking routes to areas for quiet reflection Gateshead parks have something for everyone to enjoy.

Receiving Green Flag status demonstrates Gateshead Council's ongoing commitment to providing high-quality green spaces that improve health and wellbeing, support biodiversity and create places where communities can connect with nature and each other.
