Gateshead tenants invited to free community festivals this Summer
Gateshead Council tenants are being invited to come together, try something new and connect with their neighbours as a series of free pop-up community festivals.
Taking place across four locations within multi-storey housing communities throughout June and July, the events are designed to encourage social inclusion, build stronger community connections and help residents discover activities and services available right on their doorstep.
The festivals will transform communal spaces into vibrant community hubs, featuring free food, live music, taster activities, health and wellbeing support, and opportunities for residents to shape future activities in their neighbourhoods.
The events aim to create welcoming spaces where people can meet new faces, reconnect with neighbours and get involved in activities that bring communities together.
Across all four events, residents can enjoy:
Live DJ music from The Tynesider
Gardening workshops
Crafting sessions including soap making and truffle making
Giant lawn games
Sports and wellbeing activities including pickleball and boccia
Opportunities to see newly created communal lounges
Comment walls and suggestion boxes to help shape future activities
Residents will also be able to meet and speak with a range of local organisations and support services, including Recovery Connections, GLL, Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, Northumbria Police's Community Team, Money Matters and other community partners.
The events will be held between 3pm and 6pm on:
Wednesday 24 June, Ripley Court / Willerby Court (Harlow Green - NE9 7HY)
Wednesday 1 July, Adelaide Court / Australia Blocks (Mulgrave Terrace - NE8 2EE)
Wednesday 8 July, St Cuthbert's Court (St Cuthbert's Road - NE8 2LP)
Wednesday 15 July, Fell Court / Beacon Lough Flats (Bluebell Close - NE9 6RN)
Activities will take place in brand new communal lounges developed within former caretaker flats and outdoor spaces, helping residents discover facilities available within their own communities.
All events are completely free and there is no need to book - residents can simply turn up on the day.
For more information, residents should contact Ellie McGuinness, Community Development Officer at [email protected].
