Gateshead has recognised inspiring individuals, groups and organisations who go above and beyond to help local communities thrive. 

The prestigious awards, organised by Gateshead Council in partnership with Gateshead College, MetroCentre, Komatsu, Gateshead FC, Northgate Vehicle Hire and Crossling Plumbers, shine a light on the incredible efforts of residents, volunteers and organisations across the borough. 

From dedicated carers and volunteers to community groups tackling climate change and organisations making a real difference every day, the winners reflect the very best of Gateshead's community spirit. 

2026 Gateshead Awards winners 

  • Carer of the Year - Bethany Dodgson
  • Maureen Chaplin Sports Achiever - Isabelle Fisher
  • Volunteer of the Year - Lindsay Blair
  • Voluntary / Charitable Organisation of the Year - Wardley Wombles
  • Young Achiever of the Year (25 or under) - Wardley Primary VEX Robotics
  • Sports Club of the Year - Felling Amateur Boxing Club
  • Musician / Music Group of the Year - Kev Finnigan ('Kev the Care Home Entertainer')
  • Business in the Community Award - Winlaton Handyman Shop
  • Armed Forces in the Community - Micheal Joyce
  • Tackling Climate Change Award - Chopwell Community Food Growers
  • Lifetime Achievement Awards - Ed Lown, Brian Watson, David White and Vikas Kumar

Mayor of Gateshead, Councillor Andrea Graham, said: "It is a real honour to see the incredible dedication and kindness shown by this year's winners. They represent the very best of Gateshead - people who give their time, energy and passion to support others and strengthen their communities.
