Get involved with Green Libraries Week
Green Libraries Week is coming to Gateshead from Monday, showcasing the benefits of sustainable living with a series of creative events and activities for all to enjoy.
We're joining the national Green Libraries campaign (7-13 October) to celebrate this year's theme of 'every library, a green library', which aims to raise awareness of the importance of sustainability in our communities, as well as the diverse offer of libraries all year round.
Gateshead Libraries host free and low-cost events, activities and workshops across the borough, with each library highlighting the benefits of sustainable living through promotion of re-using and sharing resources with residents.
Craft and wellbeing workshops will be on offer throughout the week, with special events including:
· MakerPlace Workshop: Laser Engraved Wooden Planters - Tuesday 8 October, 10am-11.30am at Gateshead Central Library
· Book Page Collage Workshop, Wednesday 9 October 10am-12pm at Crawcrook Library
· Kusadama Origami Flowers Workshop, Friday 11 October, 10am-12pm at Crawcrook Library
· Autumn Leaves - Hand Stitching Workshop, Saturday 12 October, 10am-12.30pm at Crawcrook Library
All themed events for Green Libraries Week must be booked in advance online at www.gatesheadlibraries.com or by calling 0191 433 8420 to make a secure payment with a member of the libraries team.
Rachel Ridley, Service Manager for Libraries and Heritage at Gateshead Council, said: "Green Libraries Week is an amazing opportunity for people to discover more at their local library while learning about the importance of sustainability and how our libraries promote sustainable living all year round.
We're very proud of our libraries and how they support our communities to thrive with a diverse offer of free resources, groups and activities for all ages.
"Special events will be held throughout the week with a 'green' theme, giving people the chance to get involved with the campaign creatively and find out more about what they can access throughout the year with a free membership."
