Can you donate gifts for children and young people in Gateshead?

CHRISTMAS GIFTS

Gateshead staff, residents, businesses and organisations are being asked to donate gifts for children who are supported by our Children's Social Care and Early Help services.

We are asking anyone who can from across the borough to donate gifts suitable for any age between 0 and 18 in an appeal to ensure every young person is able to receive a gift this Christmas.

Christmas can be an especially difficult time for those who access support from Children's Services, and due to the rising cost-of-living crisis, many are facing their hardest holiday season yet.

Councillor Gary Haley, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People at Gateshead Council, said: "As the pressures of the cost-of-living crisis continue to rise for many people across Gateshead, so do the pressures of what should be one of the happiest times of the year.

"To make the holiday season easier for those who need our support, we're appealing to residents, businesses and organisations from across the borough to donate what gifts they can for children and young people.

"By ensuring that every child and young person who uses our children's services has a gift, even just one gift that they can open, we can help to ensure those living in challenging circumstances enjoy the holiday."

All suitable donated gifts will be wrapped by the Children's team and given to children and young people on Christmas Day.

For those who are able to donate, please ensure that:

  • all gifts are new and unopened
  • all gifts remain unwrapped, so they can be checked and wrapped by Children's Services
  • all gifts are donated by close on Wednesday 20 December at the latest

The team will also accept cash and voucher donations to use for purchasing appropriate gifts.

Donations can be left at:

  • The Civic Centre (Main reception)
  • Gateshead Family Hubs
  • Gateshead Council Libraries (Including weekends)
  • Gateshead Council Leisure Centres (Including weekends)
