Bensham Grove Nursery School extends 'Outstanding' offer to more families

Bensham Grove

A Gateshead nursery school is proud to be able to offer its 'Outstanding' provision to more children in the area by becoming the new providers of childcare and education at the Elgin Centre from September.

Bensham Grove Community Nursery School, established in 1929, has a long tradition of providing high quality education for three- to five-year-olds, being one of the first Nursery Schools to open on Tyneside.

Following an Ofsted inspection on 26 April 2023, the school continues to be 'Outstanding', with Ofsted praising its 'exceptional' provision for children as well as the school's investment in training to ensure the standard of teaching and childcare is of the highest quality.

From 1 September 2023, the school based on Sidney Grove will be extending its provision to offer childcare and education from birth to 5 years for 50 weeks of the year, taking over from Spring Childcare.

The school will also become the new childcare and education provision at the Elgin Centre, formerly Spring Deckham, further extending its outstanding offer to more families in Gateshead.

Mrs Denise Kilner, Headteacher at Bensham Grove Nursery School, said: "We couldn't be prouder of the education and childcare experience we offer our school community at Bensham Grove Nursery.

"Our school has once again been recognised as 'Outstanding' by Ofsted, which reflects our high-quality provision, as well as our investment in staff and our commitment to continuous improvement.

"We're excited to be extending our offer even further to become the childcare providers at Bensham Grove and at the Elgin Centre, which will mean even more children from across our communities can benefit from our outstanding offer."

Councillor Gary Haley, cabinet member for children and young people at Gateshead Council, said: "Bensham Grove Nursery School staff are a credit to the school, demonstrating our commitment to providing the best education and care for children and young people in Gateshead.

"By extending its provision to provide for 0-5-year-olds at both Bensham Grove and the Elgin Centre, the school will be able to support children and their families to build relationships with the outstanding Bensham Grove community."

Parents and carers of children at Spring can chose to transfer their childcare to Bensham Grove Nursery School from 1 September, which will match their current childcare arrangements exactly.
