XP Gateshead - Requesting support from geologists volunteers

XP Gateshead are seeking support from geological experts- such as retired geologists- to assist students during a two-day fieldwork project at Marsden Bay. The purpose of the fieldwork is to analyse the coastal rock formations and help students understand the geological strata of the North East. Through this hands-on experience, students will explore how reading rocks can provide insights into Earth's distant past and the environmental conditions of deep geological time. This activity forms part of a wider educational project focused on the history of Gateshead and the North East since 1066, with particular emphasis on the region's mineral wealth- including limestone and the coal found beneath the Magnesian Limestone- that fuelled the Industrial Revolution. The fieldwork will take place on Thursday 11 and Friday 12 September, with teachers and students in attendance.
