Bede Community Primary School - Requesting volunteers and donations to improve Early Years Yard

The Early Years Yard is currently in poor condition due to a lack of adequate maintenance over the years. Many of the wooden structures have deteriorated and become unsafe. They are seeking assistance from volunteers and donations to help with rebuilding, replacing, or removing these structures to ensure the area is safe and engaging for the children. Below is a summary of the areas requiring attention:

• Lookout Post Ramp: The ramp has completely collapsed, leaving an exposed decking edge. A new ramp or steps are needed. Additionally, the observation boards within the lookout post have rotted and need replacing
• Performance Stage: The stage is rotting, with holes and exposed nails appearing. The surface needs to be replaced and made safe
• Path by Zen Garden: This path has become an untidy mud track. We would appreciate help in defining the pathway and laying suitable materials
• Bridge Posts: These are currently a hazard and may need to be removed
• Slide Post: The post at the bottom of the slide is wobbly and may need to be removed
• Storyteller Chair: This chair is unstable and needs to be secured
• Viewing Planter: The planter is rotting and may need to be removed
• Zen Garden Area: The raised area around the large tree is no longer accessible due to rotted steps and a collapsed planter. This entire area needs to be rebuilt and could benefit from being repurposed
• Sandpit Lid: The current lid becomes unmanageable when waterlogged. We would greatly appreciate a new, more practical design
• Willow Structure with Clematis: While the clematis is thriving, the supporting willow structure is rotting and potentially unsafe. We need help preserving the plant and removing any unsafe parts of the structure

We would be incredibly grateful for any support in addressing these issues to restore the yard to a safe and inspiring space for our children.
