Young people encouraged to vote in local Youth Parliament election
Young people aged 11-18 across Gateshead have the opportunity to elect their next Members of Youth Parliament (MYPs).
The youth elections are a democratic process and will take place throughout February 2022, with voting set to close at noon on Monday 28th February.
Members of Youth Parliament (MYP) ensure that the views of local young people are represented locally, regionally and nationally and are dedicated to driving positive change in North Gateshead for future generations.
All young people aged 11 to 18, who live, work, or go to school or college in the area can vote for their preferred MYP candidate.
Councillor Haley, cabinet member for children and young people at Gateshead Council, said: "Being able to vote in the Youth Parliament elections is a fantastic opportunity for our younger residents to have their voices heard and to create change in Gateshead on projects they're passionate about, with support and encouragement from the council.
"At Gateshead Council, we are always very keen to hear the views of young people. It's so important when we are making decisions for councillors to listen to what our younger residents are telling us."
