Hidden skip permit

You will need a permit to place a skip on public land but not if the skip is on your own land, for example a driveway.

Permission may be subject to the following conditions: 

• position of the skip,
• size of the skip, 
• visibility of the skip to traffic, 
• lighting and guarding of skips,
• care and disposal of skip contents, 
• removal of the skip.

We accept applications from skip companies, homeowners and landowners. If you are a homeowner or landowner you will need to supply details of the skip company, evidence of the companies public liability insurance and waste carriers licence. The fee for a skip permit is £25. If you are a company registered on our membership scheme this is reduced to £20.

Membership scheme

Skip companies can apply to be on the register for an annual fee of £50. The benefits of registering are:

• £5 reduction on each application,
• supply your public liability insurance (value of £5 million per claim) and waste carriers licence only once on registration, and when due for renewal during the year,
• pay monthly rather than with each application.

Approval

Do not place a skip before receiving approval from us. If you put a skip on the public highway before receiving approval you do so at your own risk. Submitting an application does not mean we have given permission.

Tacit consent 

Tacit consent does not apply. It's in the public interest to process the application before we grant it. 

Tacit consent means that you can act as if your application has been granted if you do not receive your permit within a certain time after we confirm receipt of your application.
