Dear resident
I am writing to confirm changes to the services you receive as a resident of our multi-storey blocks.
In my last letter I explained that the council is committed to spending £3.7 million to improve CCTV and door entry systems at 20 multi-storey blocks. This will involve installing new high-quality CCTV with extensive coverage of the block, to help maintain safety and deter crime and antisocial behaviour.
We will also be installing brand-new door entry systems in each flat, so you will be able see who is at the 'front door' before allowing entry (see enclosed literature for details of the type of device we will install in your flat).
In addition, we are also looking to make changes to the way we deliver services in our multi-storey residential blocks. Earlier this year, we consulted with residents on the following proposals to improve the services you receive:
- 24-hour CCTV monitoring from a new professional CCTV control room and a member of staff available at the end of your intercom 24/7
- out-of-hours attendance to your block for responsive cleaning and security related matters
- the caretaking service across all blocks will be non-residential
- there will still be a named caretaker for each block
- a new member of staff in the service to support the development of community groups and facilities in multi-storey blocks
Response to the proposals were generally positive, and I can confirm we will begin to gradually implement these changes across all blocks.
This may mean that residential caretakers in some blocks may choose to move from their current flat. However, you will still have a named caretaker for your block.
The current out-of-hours responsive cleaning arrangement for your block will continue for a period of time. We will let you know of the new out-of-hours arrangements when they are introduced. We will also make sure your notice boards are updated.
A contractor will soon be appointed to install the new CCTV and door access systems, which I anticipate will take up to two years. During this time the 24/7 services outlined above will be introduced. We will advise you when work is due to start at your block.
We expect the work to be completed across all blocks by April 2027, at which point we will review the service charges based on the proposals above. Your service charges for 2026/27 will continue to be calculated based on the current service provision, and will change in line with inflation.
