Letter to residents

Date: 26 May 2026

Dear resident

We would like to talk to you about how the demolition programme for the Gateshead Highway flyover will impact you and your neighbours.

As local residents, you will be aware of the demolition work to date, and the levels of noise this has generated. Noise levels have been measured during the first phase of the flyover demolition at Aidan House, which is a similar distance from the flyover to Park Court and Peareth Court. The noise levels have been recorded as high as 81 decibels. We are concerned that experiencing this level of noise for extended periods of time will have a significant impact on your wellbeing and your ability to comfortably stay in your home. There is also the physical impact of the demolition with barriers or screens required to shield Park Court and Peareth Court when demolition works begin on the nearby spans of the flyover. This will likely have a significant impact on the amount of light in the buildings.

We recognise this will be disruptive for residents, and the inconvenience it will cause, so will be offering you alternative accommodation while the demolition work is carried out. This is expected to be within the Summer holiday period and we will  provide suitable temporary accommodation for your household, based on your needs.

During the works, Park Court and Peareth Court will be secured at all times, with security staff on site to ensure your homes and possessions are safe and secure. All residents will be able to access their homes as and when required.

It is important that we now talk to you to understand your needs to allow us to make arrangements for the temporary period and answer any questions you have.

We will be holding drop-in sessions on Thursday 28 May and Friday 29 May, between 9am to 4pm in 78, Park Court.

Staff will also be door knocking to ensure we speak to as many residents as possible

If you are unable to attend on these days, please contact us on 0191 433 5414 or by e-mail at [email protected] and we can arrange an appointment to speak to you.

All our news updates on the flyover demolition project can be found at Gateshead Highway (A167) flyover.
