Gateshead Highway Flyover demolition - notice of upcoming property survey
As you will be aware, we have recently started work on the Gateshead Highway Flyover demolition project.
Because the flyover is close to your property, we will be taking all necessary measures to ensure that our demolition activities do not have any negative impact on your property or your landlord's property. This is part of our process to safeguard your property throughout the demolition works.
We are writing to inform you that we need to carry out a property dilapidation and condition survey in your area, which will include your property. The purpose of this survey is to assess and record the current condition of all properties near to our site before the planned demolition works begin.
Survey date
The survey of your building is scheduled to take place between Monday 8 December 2025 and Friday 12 December 2025, between 9am and 5pm. Our survey team will knock on your door during this period, and the survey of your flat will take up to 30 to 45 minutes.

What the survey involves
- The survey is a visual, non-intrusive inspection of both the exterior and interior of your property carried out by one or two AECOM engineers.
- You will need to give us access to your property to carry out this inspection.
- The inspection will involve taking photographs internally and externally. All photographs will be stored securely and used solely for survey purposes, in accordance with Section 4B of the Limitation Act 1980.
- All surveyors will carry AECOM identification and will act respectfully and professionally at all times.
Who is AECOM?
AECOM is a global engineering consultancy providing technical services across multiple sectors with offices in Newcastle. They are working on behalf of Gateshead Council and lead contractor BAM to organise the property dilapidation and condition surveys.
