Health and Social Care Foundation Level 2

Requirements 

  • Apprentices aged 16 to 18 at the start of their training are required to achieve Level 1 Maths and English qualification, with Level 2 attempted or GCSEs C/4 or above to complete their apprenticeship, if they do not already hold suitable equivalent qualifications. For those aged 19+ at the start of their training study can also be funded up to an approved level 2 in English or maths or both, achievement is not mandatory and employers can choose to opt out.

  • Minimum duration of 8 months on programme.

  • Completion of the Level 2 Diploma in Care

  •  'Off the job' training must be provided (300 hours)

  • Support from an employment mentor with monthly reviews every 4 weeks.

What you'll do at work

  • Provide frontline care for vulnerable adults within their own homes, day care centres, residential and nursing homes and/or other care settings.
  • Understand and follow key legislation and care standards, including confidentiality, equality and inclusion and health and safety.
  • Know the importance of delivering person-centred care and working with service users, families, colleagues and other professional to facilitate.
  • Understand and implement safeguarding practices, whilst treating people with respect and dignity, and promoting the health and wellbeing.
  • Explore and provide and support effective communication both verbal and nonverbal.
  • Understand how to progress own professional development.
  • Developing the values, behaviours, competencies, and skills needed to support adults facing physical, practical, social, emotional or intellectual challenges.

  • Workplace and remote tutor meetings
  • Independent research & Written answers.
  • Reflective Accounts.
  • Professional discussion.
  • Observations in the workplace.
  • Witness testimonies completed by mentor and service users.

End point assessment 

End Point Assessment will take place in the final 3 months, dependant on learner progress. End Point Assessment will consist of:

  • Professional Discussion underpinned by portfolio of evidence.
  • Knowledge Test.
