Leader in Adult Care Level 5

Requirements 

  • Level 2 Maths and English mandatory for 16-18 years and the employer's discretion for learners aged 19+

  • a minimum of 30 hours working week, working within a leadership role in an adult social care setting

  • 24 months on programme and 3-month window for End Point Assessment. Must be employed for 27 months

  • completion of the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Adult Care

  • 'off the job' training must be provided, a minimum of 6 hours a week (565 for a 24-month apprenticeship)

  • support from an employment mentor with monthly reviews every 4 weeks

What you'll do at work

The leader in adult care worker must know and demonstrate:

  • develop and implement systems to ensure regulatory compliance, manage risk, and maintain service quality, including assessments and care plans
  • lead person-centred approaches that promote well-being, active participation, and co-production with staff and individuals who access care
  • champion dignity, inclusion, fairness, and cultural awareness, embedding these values into organisational practices
  • establish clear communication processes that ensure confidentiality, clarity, and accessibility for diverse audiences
  • lead safeguarding and health and safety strategies, embedding a culture of vigilance, compliance, and continuous improvement
  • promote professional development through research, reflective practice, supervision, and leadership that fosters innovation, teamwork, and growth

Assessment methods 

  • workplace and remote tutor meetings

  • independent research and written answers

  • reflective accounts

  • professional discussion

  • observations in the workplace

  • witness testimonies completed by mentor and service users

End point assessment 

End point assessment will take place in the final 3 months, dependant on learner progress. End point assessment will consist of: 

  • professional discussion underpinned by portfolio of evidence
  • observation of leadership
