Summer Reading Challenge 2026

The themed of this year's Summer Reading Challenge is Read to the Beat. 2026 is National Year of Reading and throughout the summer, families can expect special events, digital activities and fun musical experiences in libraries.

Your challenge is to borrow 6 books from the library during the summer, collect stickers and receive your medal!

We will also be encouraging younger readers to join in the mini challenge and collect stickers for reading and attending events and the chance to win some musical prizes and some great book give-aways. The Summer Reading Challenge takes place in all Gateshead Libraries over the summer - just pop in to your local library to take part.
