Term dates for community schools in Gateshead are set by Gateshead Council for all Local Authority maintained schools.

Community school term dates for 2025/26

Term dates for community schools in Gateshead starting in September 2025. 

The return date is Tuesday 1 September 2026. All dates are inclusive.

Schools will be closed to pupils on Monday 4 May 2026 (Bank Holiday).

Three days within the above terms are to be used for professional development for staff.   These dates are to be determined and agreed by individual school governing bodies.

For schools used as polling stations, two days within the above terms are to be used for professional development for staff and one occasional day within the Summer Term 2026 is to be utilised for the purpose of closure for possible election purposes, this day will be agreed by individual school governing bodies.

The start of the Autumn Term 2026 is proposed as Tuesday 1 September 2026.

The proposed return date is Monday 6 September 2027. All dates are inclusive.

Two days within the above terms are to be used for professional development for school staff. These dates are to be determined and agreed by individual school governing bodies. Schools will inform parents of these dates once determined.
