Photo ID and changes to the law
The law changed on 4 May 2023 so you must bring photo ID with you when you go to the polling station to vote. These must be the original document, not a photocopy.
Suitable photo ID includes:
- passport
- driving license
- biometric immigration document
- A PASS card (proof of age)
- concessionary bus pass
- disabled person bus pass
- blue badge
If you do not have suitable photo ID
You can apply for a free Voter Authentication Certificate (VAC). To apply for a VAC, you will need:
- your date of birth
- National insurance number
- ability to upload a photograph
You can apply for a VAC either:
- online at GOV.UK (opens new window)
- in person at the civic centre
- by contacting us for a paper form.
