Photo ID and changes to the law

The law changed on 4 May 2023 so you must bring photo ID with you when you go to the polling station to vote. These must be the original document, not a photocopy.

Suitable photo ID includes:

  • passport
  • driving license 
  • biometric immigration document
  • A PASS card  (proof of age)  
  • concessionary bus pass
  • disabled person bus pass
  • blue badge

If you do not have suitable photo ID

You can apply for a free Voter Authentication Certificate (VAC). To apply for a VAC, you will need:

  • your date of birth
  • National insurance number
  • ability to upload a photograph
