Battery recycling
If you dispose of used batteries or electrical items containing batteries in your household waste or recycling bins, they can be damaged during waste collection and processing.
Damaged batteries can leak toxic materials and can become very hot and spark, setting fire to any combustible materials around them. This is particularly hazardous in waste facilities or in collection vehicles, where they can cause large fires and present a real danger to life.
Please choose to recycle your batteries responsibly, and use rechargeable batteries wherever possible.
You can recycle 6V, D, C, AA, AAA, 9V and button batteries at the sites listed below. Larger battery types can be taken to our household waste and recycling centres.
As well as the buildings listed below, many retailers and supermarkets have battery recycling points.
Anywhere that sells batteries has a legal duty to take back old batteries from customers for recycling.
