Fly-tipping

If you are aware of waste dumped on publicly owned land, let us know.

Graffiti

Report any instances of graffiti as this is illegal and can result in a fixed penalty notice if the person is caught.

Dog fouling

If we catch someone leaving their dog waste in public areas, we will fine them.

Environmental anti social behaviour

Our teams, can help deal with issues such as fly-tipping or waste in gardens/yards.

Tougher fines for environmental crimes

Gateshead residents who spoil the local environment for others are now facing tougher fines showing everyone that this type of behaviour will not be tolerated.

We have delivered another wave of road improvements across the borough using the specialist Pothole Pro machine.

Did you know...

In 2023/24 we invested an additional £2m in our environmental services (since maintained), with a further £1m in 2025/26. This means we have more people and new machinery to help keep our local communities clean and tidy.

Fly-tipping alone costs us over £400,000 a year to remove and dispose of. If everyone gets rid of their waste in the right way this could be used for other frontline services.

Environmental volunteers

There are lots of different opportunities. Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, learn new skills, find out from the experts about our amazing wildlife and work outside doing something worthwhile. It's also a great way to improve your health and wellbeing.

Estate walkabouts

A great opportunity for council tenants to meet with their local Neighbourhood Housing Officer, accompany them as they walk around the neighbourhood, discuss issues to be reported, and give feedback on how the estate can be improved. The estate walkabouts are on pre-arranged dates and times, so you can plan your attendance.

Community clean ups

Throughout the year we will organise clean up days focusing on a particular area or neighbourhood. These will include a variety of services including the removal of litter, rubbish and graffiti and our arbour team. Look out for us out and about!
