Terminal illness discount

From 1 April 2026, if someone in your household has been diagnosed with a terminal illness and the household is experiencing significant financial hardship, you may be entitled to a reduction in your Council Tax bill.

Eligibility criteria

• someone living in the property has been diagnosed with a terminal illness
• you can provide an SR1 form completed by a healthcare professional
• your household receives Council Tax Support

If your household does not receive Council Tax Support but is experiencing significant financial hardship, you may still qualify for the discount.

How to apply

Use the Contact Council Tax form. When asked what you are contacting us about, choose 'Something else' and upload your SR1 form.
