Apprentice discount

To be classed as an apprentice for Council Tax purposes you must be:

  1. employed and learning a trade, business, profession, office, employment or vocation
  2. undertaking a programme of training leading to a qualification approved by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority
  3. employed at a salary, allowance, or both, which is no more than £195 per week before deductions. This salary must be substantially less than the salary likely to be paid once the qualification mentioned has been achieved.

An adult (a person over 18 years old) who is an apprentice will not be counted when working out the Council Tax bill. 

A discount of 50% will apply when an apprentice lives alone.

A discount of 50% will apply where all the adults are apprentices.

Applications can take up to 28 days to process. We will contact you if we need further information.

After you've applied you must still pay the amount on your Council Tax bill until you hear from us.

We will handle the information you supply in accordance with the Council Tax privacy notice.
