Lowest-paid employees

'Lowest paid employees' is defined as those full-time employees in jobs paid at Grade A at spinal column point 3. It excludes apprentices, whose pay remains subject to other regulations or conditions, and has specific treatment under this policy.

Spinal column point 3, at £12.85 per hour from 1 April 2025, is £0.14 per hour more than the National Living Wage and £0.60 per hour less than the UK Accredited Living Wage (outside London).

  • Annual salary at spinal column point 3 is currently £24,796 p.a. pay award pending from 1 April 2026.
  • The mode (most frequently used) salary for full-time employees falls within Grade D, the maximum of which is £39,152 pay award pending.The mode salary will be recalculated post pay award.
  • The median salary for full-time employees, excluding overtime and any other additional payments, is £33,699 pay award pending.
