The Millin Charity open enterprise centre for women in Gateshead

The Millin Charity open business centre for women

The Millin Charity, in partnership with Gateshead Council, is opening a dedicated centre for women at Greenesfield Business Centre, Gateshead.

The Local Women Local Enterprise Hub aims to advance financial independence for women through services and activities that enable them to overcome barriers and help them achieve their full potential.

The Hub will work in partnership with local organisations to deliver a range of services including one-to-one advice and guidance; accredited training courses; specialist enterprise workshops; mentoring programme; collaborative workspace; networking; meeting rooms; on-site creche; crafts room; ICT suite and onsite training room.

Speaking about the initiative, Sarah Miller, Chief Executive, The Millin Charity said, "We carried out extensive consultation with local stakeholders and we're pleased to announce that we're replicating the unique Newcastle Women's Hub model in Gateshead.

"We've already supported over 200 Gateshead women to gain accredited enterprise skills, develop business ideas and start up their own businesses and this centre is the next step.

Cllr Catherine Donovan, Deputy Leader of Gateshead Council said

"The council is committed to giving women the support they need to thrive and help remove the barriers they are known to face when seeking out financial independence.

"Unemployment amongst women increased during the pandemic both locally and nationally. Recent figures show that over 3000 women aged 16-65 are claiming job seekers support in Gateshead.  A supportive, understanding, accessible space with a full programme of services and facilities is most definitely welcome, now more than ever, to support these women.

"The team at The Millin Charity are fantastic. They're known locally, trusted and have already been successful in the borough with the 'Local Women, Local Enterprise' training programme supporting hundreds of local women."

The Hub is financed with support from Gateshead's Community-Led Local Development programme, 'Gateshead Goes Local' as part of the 2014-2020 European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme in England, and The Growth and Resilience Fund at the Community Foundation Tyne & Wear and Northumberland.

Sarah concluded by saying: "We are excited to announce that the doors to our new Women's Enterprise Hub at Greenesfield Business Centre, Gateshead, are opening to the public this September and we are inviting local women and practitioners to come and visit. We will be maintaining social distancing and adhering to Covid safety guidance therefore have different event time slots available on both days."

Opening Day for Local Women  -  Tuesday 21 September 2021 - Time slots available: 11.30am, 12.15pm and 1.00pm

Opening Day for Professionals and Practitioners - Thursday 23 September 2021 - Time slots available: 10.30am, 12noon and 1.30pm
