Marriages and civil partnerships
Marriages and civil partnerships at Gateshead Register Office during Covid-19 restrictions
On 23 June the Prime Minister announced that from 4 July religious and civil marriage ceremonies and civil partnership formations will be allowed to recommence in England if certain conditions around social distancing are met.
The health and safety of staff and guests is of utmost importance to us and we will expect ceremony venues to accommodate social distancing with spaced-seating arrangements. Whilst ceremonies have been permitted, strict social distancing measures are still in place at Gateshead Civic Centre. For this reason the number of guests will be restricted, and your ceremony may look different to how you may have expected.
Following the Prime Ministers announcement on 31 July face coverings will be required to be worn by guests at weddings and civil partnership ceremonies including those taking place in register offices or other approved venues. Face coverings will not have to be worn by the bride, groom or civil partners.
As we are currently prioritising the large number of couples who already have existing bookings with us and need to reschedule their ceremonies, we are not taking any new ceremony or civil partnership bookings for Gateshead Civic Centre or any other venue in Gateshead until 1 October 2020.
Whether you are planning a small, intimate ceremony or a grand occasion, we can provide you with a stunning backdrop to your marriage in Gateshead.
