Saltwell crematorium

Saltwell crematorium is surrounded by extensive grounds and is situated within the Saltwell Conservation Area located next to Saltwell Park. The chapel is set out in a simple dignified style.

The chapel is available for funeral services of all denominations and sects and although there is a cross on the wall, this can be covered if so desired.

Service times

Services times are not publicised as they can sometimes change. You can call Bereavement Services 0191 433 3816/3811 or email cemeteriesandcrematoria@gateshead.gov.uk Monday to Friday 9am-1pm, 2 - 4pm to find out the time of a service. We are not responsible for any changes and recommend that you check again before the service is due. Some families do request that service times aren't given out.

Book of remembrance

The book of remembrance provides an everlasting record and memorial for the deceased. In addition a digital version of the book of remembrance is available enabling you to access the inscriptions at anytime.  Visit our Book of remembrance page for further information.

Garden of remembrance

Saltwell crematorium has a garden of remembrance. This is a tranquil, landscaped garden where you will be able to reflect and remember your loved one in privacy. Many of the walks and borders in the formal part of the garden are edged with special kerbstones to which commemorative plaques can be attached.

Floral tributes

Floral tributes will remain on display for three nights following the funeral. After the third night we will remove the flowers for recycling/disposal, unless otherwise instructed. This is at the discretion of the Cremation Authority. We do not accept any responsibility for tributes left at the crematorium after a funeral service or placed in the Garden of Remembrance.

Car parking

There is a car park available within the crematorium grounds. There is an overflow car park behind the crematorium, should you find that the car park is full on arrival.

Toilets at Saltwell Crematorium are situated in the outbuilding opposite to the Book of Remembrance room. There are also toilets situated in the waiting area to the chapel.
