Birtley crematorium is located in the grounds of Birtley Cemetery.
The chapel has seating for approximately 80 people with extra room for standing in the entrance. It has good wheelchair access and a hearing loop system.
The chapel is available for funeral services of all denominations and sects and although there is a cross on the wall, this can be covered if so desired.
Services times are not publicised as they can sometimes change. You can call Bereavement Services 0191 433 3816/3811 or email email@example.com Monday to Friday 9am-1pm, 2 - 4pm to find out the time of a service. We are not responsible for any changes and recommend that you check again before the service is due. Some families do request that service times aren't given out.
Book of remembrance
The book of remembrance provides an everlasting record and memorial for the deceased. A digital version of the book of remembrance is available enabling you to access the inscriptions at anytime. Visit our book of remembrance page for further information.
Garden of remembrance
Birtley crematorium has a garden of remembrance. This is a tranquil, landscaped garden where you will be able to reflect and remember your loved one in privacy. Many of the walks and borders in the formal part of the garden are edged with special kerbstones to which commemorative plaques can be attached.
Floral tributes will remain on display for three nights following the funeral. After the third night we will remove the flowers for recycling/disposal, unless otherwise instructed. This is at the discretion of the Cremation Authority. We do not accept any responsibility for tributes left at the crematorium after a funeral service or placed in the Garden of Remembrance.
There is a limited number of parking spaces available within the crematorium grounds. If this area is full, crematorium staff will direct traffic to park on Windsor Road outside of the crematorium.
Toilets at Birtley Crematorium are situated in the Book of Remembrance room, which is opposite the chapel.
No dogs, other than guide dogs, will be allowed in crematoria buildings. Dogs can be taken into the grounds but must be kept on a short leash and any fouling must be removed and disposed of correctly.
