Families in Gateshead who have children with suspected ADHD or autism, or who are already on the neurodevelopmental assessment pathway, are being encouraged to attend a new series of Neurodevelopment Support Events taking place across the borough throughout 2026.

The events, delivered in partnership between Gateshead Council, Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust and a wide range of local support organisations, are designed to help parents and carers access practical advice, early help, and specialist services.

You do not need to be on the neurodevelopmental assessment pathway to attend these events, they are open to anyone who thinks their child may have ADHD or autism and would benefit from early information, guidance, or reassurance. These drop in events aim to provide families with meaningful support at the earliest possible stage.

Families can meet teams offering help with education, health, benefits, parenting support, emotional wellbeing, and more. Depending on the event, exhibitors may include:

  • Gateshead Parent Carer Forum
  • Gateshead Council Early Help teams
  • Gateshead Family Hubs
  • CNTW NHS
  • Citizens Advice Gateshead
  • Gateshead Council Education, Schools and Inclusion team
  • The SEN Support Space
  • The Children's Society
  • 0-19 Health Service

No need to book - just pop in

The events are free, informal, and open for you to drop in at any time, with a friendly marketplace-style layout so families can speak to the services that matter most to them.

Events will take place at Family Hubs in Deckham, Chowdene, and Blaydon throughout the year. Each session includes information stands, advice from professionals, and opportunities for families to connect with others on similar journeys.
