Tyne Derwent Way

Tyne Derwent Way

The Tyne Derwent Way, is a 9 mile walking and cycling route linking established landmarks and trails from the town centre to Dunston Staiths to Gibside.

Now well established, the trail connects local landmarks such as St Mary's Heritage Centre, Dunston Staiths, the Metrocentre, the Land of Oak and Iron, Nine Arches Viaduct and Gibside.

Designed for walking, cycling and exploring, the Tyne Derwent Way celebrates our heritage, culture and wildlife while improving access to open space and encouraging healthy, active lifestyles.

With support from partners including the National Trust, Tyne & Wear Building Preservation Trust, Northumbria University and Newcastle University, the Tyne Derwent Way is a lasting legacy shaped by communities, open for everyone to enjoy.

We will be making further improvements to enhance this glorious green asset for our local residents.
