Metrocentre and Riverside

Working with the Metrocentre, our ambition for Metro Riverside is bold: the transformation of 500 acres of brownfield land along the Tyne into a sustainable community, with 3,500 new homes, 25,000m² of retail and leisure and extensive green networks. Centred around a reimagined Metrocentre, Metro Riverside will have strong transport links and waterside living.

Tyne Derwent Way

The Tyne Derwent Way, opened in 2022, is a 9 mile walking and cycling route linking established landmarks and trails from the town centre to Dunston Staiths to Gibside. Celebrating heritage, culture and wildlife, it improves access to green and open space and encourages healthy, active lifestyles for Gateshead residents and visitors. We will be making further improvements to enhance this glorious green asset.
