Objection to the proposed 38 acre burial ground with access off the A695
You may have read in the local and national press or social media about a planning application for a burial ground for up to 22,287 burial plots with access off the A695 between Prudhoe and Crawcrook. Local residents are raising awareness of this major development and the ongoing impact it will have on the local community, road infrastructure and environment as follows:
- Increased traffic volume on A695 with risk to vehicle and pedestrian safety Inappropriate funeral cortege access onto single track lane resulting in backlog of traffic on to the A695.
- Inappropriate greenbelt proposal for a huge ceremony building, associated pathways, 98 parking bays, 4 hearse and limousine parking bays, service and storage yard and public WC's.
- Insensitive design, appearance and layout within the context of a greenbelt area, conservation area and Grade II* 18th c listed Bradley Hall.
- Impact on the environment, wildlife and protected species.
- Ground contamination and pollution of adjacent equestrian land and watercourses.
- Change of use of productive arable farm and grazing land.
- Antisocial behaviour and vandalism.
- Impact on residential amenity, safety, security and privacy.
Background information
The proposal is being promoted as a 'Natural Burial Ground'. In reality, the scheme is a major commercial ongoing business that will scar the landscape forever whilst severely impacting traffic and public safety. If approved a precedent will be set and we can expect the development of more green belt land throughout our local community in the future. Help us stop this now by signing this petition.
