Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)

The Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) have merged to become the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). CRB checks are now called DBS checks. A DBS check may be needed for applying to foster or adopt a child.

This privacy policy explains your rights as a customer of the DBS under the Data Protection Act 1998. It explains why we require your personal data, and what you can expect from us in terms of our data protection responsibilities.
This code of practice is intended to ensure - and to provide assurance to those applying for standard and enhanced disclosures - that the information released will be used fairly. The code is concerned with the use of information provided to anyone entitled to see such disclosures. Under the provisions of the code, sensitive personal information must be handled and stored appropriately and must be kept for only as long as is necessary.
