Connected Voice: Hate Crime Advocacy
Connected Voice Hate Crime Advocacy Service can help adults by:
- listening to you and understanding what you are going through
- helping you to get information about your rights and options
- supporting you to report hate crimes if you want to
- helping you to be heard and deal with others (for example, the police, housing, medical services)
- taking your side
Anyone affected by hate crime who is aged 16 or over and lives in Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland, North or South Tyneside, or Northumberland can access the Hate Crime Advocacy service.

Streetwise Young People's Project
Streetwise provide practical and emotional support for young victims of crime (aged 11 to 25), including hate crime. The support on offer includes:
- information, advice and guidance
- one to one counselling
- peer support groupwork sessions that engage ethnic minority young men affected by crime, exploitation and/or hate crime, focussing on positive relationships, informed decision making, respect, power and consent.

Stop Hate UK
Stop Hate UK was originally established in direct response to the murder of Stephen Lawrence. They offer advice for anyone directly affected by hate crime as well as offering training and resources.

Hate crime or hate incidents
If you have witnessed a hate incident or been a victim of hate crime because of your race, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation or disability please report it.
- Call 101 to speak to police
- Report directly to Northumbria Police (opens new window) or True Vision (opens new window) online
- Report in person at a Safe Reporting Centre or Enhanced Safe Reporting Centre in Gateshead
If you have seen any offensive graffiti on a home, business or public area, you can report it online.
Community tensions
If you're concerned about issues that could affect community cohesion, such as rising tensions, protests or issues causing fear in your community, you can report them to the community safety team. Early reporting helps us work with partners to prevent issues from escalating.
