Counterpoise
Counterpoise is a graceful stainless steel sculpture that combines delicate line with convex and concave shapes.
The discs represent satellite communication; with the coloured spheres symbolising messages moving around in space. The artwork is adjacent to the Gateshead International Business Centre within an outdoor seating area.
The work has reflective components and visually connects to a number of specific features within the landscape, including The Glasshouse International Centre for Music, The Old Town Hall and Acceleration. It is 7 metres in height and is illuminated at night.
Funded by One North East through the Single Regeneration Budget, Counterpoise was created in 2005.
