Love Parks Week: Saltwell Park 150 Celebration Day
Join us for a day of family-friendly activities and experiences as we celebrate Saltwell Park's 150th anniversary!
As part of Love Parks Week, we're celebrating 150 years of Saltwell Park with a programme inspired by its rich heritage, natural beauty and the volunteers, communities and visitors who make 'The People's Park' one of Gateshead's most treasured assets.
Visitors can enjoy live music, creative activities, heritage experiences, sport and nature-inspired activities throughout the day, with something for all ages to enjoy.
What's on
- Live music from local artists and performers at the Bandstand (11am to 3pm)
- Family creative workshops in Saltwell Towers inspired by the history of Saltwell Park (11am to 3pm)
- Circus workshops and performances, including aerial skills and floor skills (11am to 3pm)
- Nature-themed reading and interactive activities for little ones with Gateshead Libraries (11am to 3pm)
- Street Scene vehicles and machinery - families can climb aboard and take photos! (10am to 3pm)
- Carnival-style photo boards at Saltwell Towers (10am to 3pm)
- Guided history and heritage walk with local historian Michael Turner 10am to 12noon. Meet at main entrance by The Little Theatre. No booking necessary
- Tots and Parents Tennis (9.30am to10.15am, pre-booking required) - tennis courts; Age 3 to 5 - bookable by emailing [email protected]
- Junior Tennis (10.30am to 12 noon, pre-booking required) - tennis courts ages 6 to 11 - book a place
- Wellbeing Walk from Gateshead Library, around Saltwell Park (10.30am to 12 noon), no booking required
- Free community sports activities from GLL by the tennis courts
Don't forget, you can visit the Charlie Rogers exhibition in Saltwell Towers, featuring artwork inspired by Saltwell Park and Gateshead.
