About us
Headteacher's welcome

Welcome to our website, we hope you enjoy learning all about our Virtual School and we hope you find the answers to any questions you have here.
Here at Gateshead Virtual School, we are passionate about achieving the very highest standards of education for our children in our care and those children with a social worker.
We pride ourselves on building and maintaining fantastic and supportive relationships with our schools, providers and settings to ensure that every child has access to a wealth of opportunities, has their needs well met and is able to achieve their very best in education and their wider lives.
We believe there is no ceiling on what our children can achieve and are highly aspirational.
We also passionately advocate the impact that a range of diverse and engaging enrichment experiences can have for children and young people, and we bring a whole host of engaging experiences to them through our fantastic partner organisations.
Ultimately, we champion inclusive education for children and in people who are care experienced and we look forward to working alongside you all on our journey to improve outcomes and change lives.
Who we are and what we do
Gateshead Virtual School (GVS), is responsible for promoting the educational achievement, progress and outcomes of Gateshead's children in our care. This might be for those children who live in Gateshead or may live out of area.
Education is pivotal to all decision making regarding the welfare of our cared for children, and will feature in all care planning together with our social care colleagues. Social workers, VSH, IROs, school admission officers, and the Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) team will work together to ensure that, except in an emergency, appropriate education provision for a child is arranged at the same time as a care placement.
We are also responsible for promoting the educational achievement of those children who are previously looked after, in a kinship arrangement or who have a social worker. We provide information and advice to parents, educators, carers and social workers to help support the educational pathways of those children.
