This & That
This & That by Colin Rose, is a spectacular new public artwork commissioned to create a main focus and identity to the refurbished Yellow Mall. This major artwork incorporates two large stainless steel cone forms, one suspended from the ceiling and one rising from the floor and is situated in the concourse at upper mall level.
The idea for the work was to create two elements which, placed together, would create a visual dialogue or 'conversation'. Spanning from floor to ceiling I wanted people to be able move between and around the forms in the space to be able to relate the work to the larger space of the Yellow Mall development.
The artwork is made from stainless steel, which contrasts with the materials used in the interior design of the Yellow Mall. Its mirror polished surface makes the work reflective so that visitors can not only see themselves in the works but also add to its dynamic qualities by adding movement and colour to the work.
Based in Northumberland Colin Rose is an artist of international reputation.
Gateshead Council Public Art Team and Capital Shopping Centres worked in partnership to commission this landmark work of art for the Yellow Quadrant of the Metro Centre in Gateshead in 2009.
