Moving into Gateshead

We charge you from the date you move into the property, unless the purchase date or tenancy start date is different.

Moving out of Gateshead

You will be charged up to the date you move out. If you sold your property or your tenancy ended on a different date, tell us the date your responsibility for the Council Tax ended.

Moving from one address to another, both within Gateshead

We will send you a revised bill showing anything you still owe for your old address and what you owe for your new address.

If you have credit for your old address, we will use it to reduce the bill at your new address.

We will send you a new bill if you have not been responsible for paying the Council Tax before and you now rent or own a property.

Your bill will tell you what your instalments are.

Buying a property in Gateshead but not to live in

A second home could have a 100% Council Tax premium applied, in addition to the standard Council Tax liability.

Selling a property in Gateshead that is not your main home

You may qualify for a temporary 12-month exemption from the second home premium. You will still have to pay the standard Council Tax during this period.
