Careers Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG)
Gateshead Careers Team offers impartial advice and guidance to young people aged 16 to 18 to help them explore their vocational interests and access the labour market. Our team of experienced career advisors offer support to help young people understand the range of post-16 education, training and employment options. This includes 6th form, college courses, training and study programs as well as apprenticeships. If you're struggling with social, health or welfare problems that are affecting your ability to engage in work or learning we can put you in touch with specialist services.
Helping you to understand what employers want
The labour market is competitive and it's important you're ready for the challenges ahead. Our Careers Team are here to support you along the way.
We can help you with the following:
- highlight your 16 to 18 options (such as college or training)
- vocational information (what specific jobs involve, key skills or attributes, entry requirements, training routes)
- labour market information
- job and apprenticeship search
- application forms/personal statements
- CVs
- interview skills
Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
The Careers IAG Team offers support up to the age of 25 for young people that have held an Education Health & Care plan. Further information about support and provision for young people with special educational needs and disabilities can be found by visiting Gateshead's Local Offer.

Gateshead Careers Team work with Gateshead young people aged 16 to 18 (25 with EHCP).
For those outside of the Careers IAG Team's age remit, further help and support may be available through Employment Services.
