Future You Project Privacy Notice
Who are we and what do we do
Future You was a pilot project, funded through the Community Renewal Fund. It offered Gateshead residents free vocational training and volunteering opportunities. It also provided confidential support and advice to help resolve money worries.
The service was run as a partnership, with each of the following partner organisations offering something that would make a real difference to an individual's work skills and experience:

- Youth Focus NE
- Connected Voice
- 2 Way Tenancy CIC
- Age UK
For the purposes of this privacy statement all six partner organisations are Joint Data Controllers.
A company called Rocket Science evaluated the project's process and impact at the end. The pilot project ended in July 2022. The data collected from the project will be held for six years.
This privacy notice provides specific information about how the your personal data was processed during the pilot project and is an addition to the information contained in our Corporate Privacy notice.
What type of information is collected about you
To pass participants to the right partner, we collected the following information about you:
- contact details, including, name, address, postcode
- date of birth
- employment status
- duration of unemployment (if applicable)
- National Insurance Number (NI)
- any reasons for the participant's economic inactivity (for example, a student, a carer)
- any further support they may need or assistance requests
To ensure that we gave you the right support, advice and guidance and to improve our service by ensuring we reach all sectors of the community, as well as supporting our research by using your data in a way that means you cannot be identified (such as providing an anonymous report to our funders), the following special category information was also gathered:
- disability/long term health condition
- ethnicity
- gender
How we collect information about you
We collected information about you from various sources including:
- self-referral
- when you were referred into the service by the Council or community worker
- directly from you during the programme via telephone calls or emails
Why we need your information
We needed your personal data to ensure that you were referred to the most appropriate partner and received the most appropriate support as part of the programme.
Our lawful basis for processing your personal data for the above purposes (Article 6) are:
- you have given clear consent for us to process your personal data for a specific purpose
- task in a public interest or in exercise of public authority
Our lawful basis for processing your special category personal data (Article 9) is health or social care (with a basis in law).
Who your information can be shared with
Our Corporate Privacy Notice. sets out the general types of information sharing that the Council carries out to fulfil statutory obligations, legal requirements, and service delivery. Upon referral to the programme, your information has been shared between the partners named in this privacy notice.
Your information has also been shared with Rocket Science who evaluated the project. As part of the evaluation, Rocket Science contacted participants to obtain their views of the service. They only contacted participants who had given consent for this when agreeing to participate.
If we wish to share your information with other council services or third parties for purposes outside of those listed above, we will ask for your permission.
How long we will keep your information
We keep your information for as long as we need to provide services to you. We may also need to keep your information in accordance with legal or other obligations. Where we have no need to keep your data it will be securely destroyed. We keep a Record of Processing Activity (a requirement under the GDPR). Where your information is held
We hold personal information in secure electronic systems on Gateshead council servers. All of these are either password protected, or access approvals are in place.
