Information for sponsors welcoming a Ukrainian person or family
Please note that under current Home Office guidance, DBS and home checks cannot start until you have completed your application for the Homes for Ukraine scheme and provided details of the Ukrainian nationals who you wish to host.
Gateshead is responding to a fast-changing situation and evolving Government guidance.
Checks required
All sponsors will require safeguarding and home checks. The relevant checks will be arranged for you by Gateshead Council. Please do not arrange or purchase your own DBS checks, as the costs of these will be covered by us.
In order to begin completing these necessary checks, we are contacting all sponsors as quickly as possible.
Safeguarding checks
There are two parts to the safeguarding check. First is the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
To complete the DBS check you will need to provide proof of ID. For more information on what you will need, check Gov.UK's guidance on DBS checks (opens new window) .
The second part of the safeguarding check is a visit from a social worker to your home. The purpose of this visit is to speak to you and ensure there are no safeguarding risks. These checks will be carried out by out by our safeguarding teams.
Accommodation checks
All homes must meet the standards as set out in the Gov.UK's accommodation guidance (opens new window). We will be in touch to arrange a convenient time to visit your home or property.
