'All About Me' groupwork is a creative space to help children in care understand who they are today, to explore their identity, to explore what is happening right now, and explore their hopes and dreams for the future.
It is a light-touch, fun and creative 'first step' into Life Story Work, based on the 'Rose' model of Life Story Work, alongside narrative therapy, play therapy and art therapy.
Children and Young people in care will be offered the chance to take part in six creative sessions (once a week for six weeks), alongside their trusted adult (for example their foster carer). These sessions will be held in person and in groups where there will be up to six children and their trusted adults present.
Sessions will be delivered inhouse by our Therapeutic Social Worker, or a TLSW diploma trained member of staff with a supporting pastoral support worker present.
Here are some examples of things created in past sessions (click on the image for a larger version):
Please note that sessions are not tailored to an individual, but are based on 'general exploration' from the child's perspective. Themes covered include Who Am I, My Favourite Things, My Feelings, People in my Life, Where Have I been, and My Hopes and Dreams for the Future.
You may find after sessions have ended that your child or young person has further questions about their past, their experiences and their journey into care. If this is the case, they will be able to 'move up' the tiers of the Life Story Work triangle to access more 1-1 tailored support. If your child is not comfortable in a group setting, your child's social worker should be able to complete All about Me 1-1 with them.
We are currently in the process of planning the provisional All About Me Groupwork sessions and proposed dates for 2024. Please check back in at a later date for confirmation about this.
