Breakout - Developing independence and works skills

Breakout Project 1

Gateshead Council's learningSkills OpenDoor Breakout 1 programme is for learners with a learning disability aged 16 to 24 years (at pre-entry to Entry 1 level). Stage one of Breakout is a one year classroom-based programme based at the Dryden Centre that runs from Tuesday to Thursday with the possibility of a work placement. The programme develops independent living skills including independent travel, money matters and communication and relationships, employment and volunteering skills and Maths, English and Digital skills. Although personal care for learners is not provided, personal assistants are able to accompany learners during the programme. Learners do not need an Education, Health and Care Plan to access this programme and can progress onto Breakout Project 2 on successful completion to further develop their independence and employability skills.

Gateshead Council's learningSkills OpenDoor Breakout 2 programme is for learners with a learning disability aged 16 to 24 years (at Entry 2 to Entry 3 level). Stage two of Breakout is a one year classroom-based programme based at the Dryden Centre that runs from Tuesday to Thursday with the possibility of a work placement. The programme develops independent living skills including independent travel, money matters and communication and relationships, employment and volunteering skills and Maths, English and Digital skills. Although personal care for learners is not provided, personal assistants are able to accompany learners during the programme. Learners do not need an Education, Health and Care Plan to access this programme and learners may progress into employment or social care following successful completion.  

Breakout Autism Project

Gateshead Council's learningSkills OpenDoor Breakout Autism programme is for learners with Autism aged 16 to 24 years (at Entry 2 to Entry 3 level). This programme is classroom based in the Dryden Centre that runs from Tuesday to Thursday with the possibility of work placement. The programme intends to create a calm and supportive atmosphere for young people with strategic teaching methods used to engage. The programme develops independence, work and volunteering skills, Maths, English and Digital skills towards increasing life chances for people with Autism.
