Road closures for this weekend's Blaydon Race

Road closed

Posted: 5 June 2018

Motorists are advised to expect some delays on Tyneside this Saturday as the annual Blaydon Race gets underway.

The 5.6 mile road race, which takes place every year on June 9, requires temporary road closures on Scotswood Road in Newcastle, the Scotswood Bridge, and Chainbridge Road and Shibdon Road in Gateshead between 1.00pm and 6.30pm on Saturday afternoon.

The closures are likely to cause some congestion in Newcastle City Centre, Blaydon and other roads in and out of the City.  Fully signposted diversions will be in place, but drivers are advised to avoid the affected areas if possible and to allow additional time for journeys.

In addition, the temporary road closures affecting Chainbridge Road will mean Cowen Road Household Waste and Recycling Centre will close at 12.15 on Saturday. The site will re-open as normal at 9.00 on Sunday 10th June 2018.

The event organisers, Northumbria Police and Gateshead and Newcastle Council's apologise for any inconvenience or delay this event may cause and thank everyone for their patience and co-operation.
