Fly tip vehicle seized in joint operation

Seized vehicle

This is the moment a suspected fly tipper was deprived of his vehicle - and with it the means to dump illegal waste across the region.

Gateshead Council, in conjunction with colleagues at Newcastle, South Tyneside and Sunderland Councils and supported by officers from Northumbria Police, seized a Transit van suspected of being involved in fly tipping across the region.

The vehicle was seized yesterday morning (22 May) from an address in South Tyneside as the result of work by a joint task force who have been investigating the illegal dumping of large quantities of waste.

Investigations are ongoing and it is likely that criminal proceedings against those involved will be started in the near future.
